The Duluth Branch held their 7th annual fundraiser, “Created Here: Meet the Artists”, organized to fundraise for local scholarships and AAUW Funds. This year’s event had a record attendance of 169 people, who enjoyed the music of Linda Turpening, pianist. Featured artists shared their stories and talents: Claudia Clark Myers, costume designer and quilter; Jeanne Doty, dancer; and Rebecca Katz Harwood, choreographer.
With funds from a Campus Action Project grant, the Willmar Branch sponsored a “Taste of College” visit on November 6. Participants visited Ridgewater College’s Vet Tech and Ag departments and heard from the career counselor about STEM career programs at the College. The group also visited the Jennie-O Turkey Store where they experienced a tour with a Food Scientist at JOTS and listened to a panel consisting of a Veterinarian, IT Specialist, and an Accountant. Pictured are Willmar Branch president, Jeanette Carlson, the participants, and their school counselor. The Branch plans to organize at least one more “Taste of College” visit from CAP grant funds.

AAUW-MN Visits Alexandria
AAUW of Minnesota board members, Carrie D’Andrea and Gail Glashan enjoyed every minute visiting the AAUW Alexandria branch meeting Thursday evening, June 18, 2015. Joan Larson, branch president, extended a warm welcome, as did their members and guests. After viewing the video, ONE AAUW together, Carrie and Gail introduced ourselves and talked about their home branches, followed by a question and answer session.

Duluth Branch visits UMD Women in Law Class
Students from the Women in Law class gave a presentation on the history of AAUW and Duluth Branch members shared an overview of AAUW policy and mission, Title IX, Lilly Ledbetter and student membership.
Duluth Branch Equal Pay Day Program

The Ely Branch, in collaboration with Vermilion Community College, recently held their annual STEM workshop for girls in 5th-8th grades. The girls participated in four workshops: Know Your Local Sky, Fun with Wind, Ice Cream and Healthy Living, and Building a Watershed. The Branch received grants from Lake Country Power and AAUW MN to help defray the cost of the daylong event. For more information, e-mail elystem@gmail.com.
The Hibbing Branch held their annual used book sale and fundraiser with over 70,000 books donated for the sale. Proceeds from the sale support local scholarships and the AAUW Fund. In addition to book sale proceeds, the Keewatin Fire Department made a $1000 donation to the AAUW Hibbing Branch. Congratulations to the branch for organizing another successful fundraiser!
The Red Wing Area Branch recently hosted the MN premiere showing of Anita, Speaking Truth to Power, a documentary directed by Frieda Mock. Over 300 people from the community and surrounding area attended the event. Kris Kvols, Executive of HOPE Coalition was moderator of an intense and thought provoking discussion following the film.
A NCCWSL Experience

ELECT HER 2015 IN MINNESOTA
Thank you to the Women’s Center at the University of Minnesota for hosting “Elect Her: Campus Women Win” for a very successful 3rd year. Elect Her is a collaborative workshop sponsored by AAUW and Running Start that encourages college women to run for student government on their college campuses.
Duluth Branch Sponsors Women’s Economic Security Event

Duluth Branch Hosts Fundraiser
The Duluth Branch recently held their annual fundraiser event, “Created Here: Meet the Artists”. This year’s event featured a local author, a musician, and three comedic theatre artists. Two additional artists, a pianist who provided welcome and interlude music, and a visual artist whose artwork graced posters, post cards and bookmarks, supported the fundraiser. Proceeds from the event are used for AAUW Funds contributions and for scholarships to support women seeking graduate degrees.
Grand Rapids Branch Sponsors Candidate Forum

Brainerd Branch Hosts NE MN Get Together
Forty members from NE Minnesota Branches and AAUW MN State President, Sharon Bigot, had a great time in Brainerd sharing information and hearing from two women who shared their career path in the science field. This meeting has become a yearly tradition, hosted by a different branch each year. Next year’s “Northland Get Together” will be held in Duluth, hosted by the Duluth Branch.
